High school hockey fans help opposing student with prom invite

Leave it to high school hockey fans to put aside differences from a friendly crosstown rivalry and the heated tension of a section title game to help each other out with social commitments.

As captured by St. Cloud, Minn. sports radio station 1390 The Fan, fans of the St. Cloud Cathedral hockey team helped an unnamed fan (who is, presumably, a student) of the St. Cloud Apollo hockey team with one of the most important moments of a high school career: His invitation to prom. The photo you see above captures the moment when Cathedral fans held aloft sections of poster board, mosaic, tifo style, painted with letters to ask a girl named Rachel if she would go to the prom.

We don’t know who Rachel is, nor who she was asked to prom by. Or whether she said yes! What we do know is that helping out was a downright classy move by the Cathedral fan section, which had an otherwise miserable day; Apollo earned the Section 6A Minnesota boys hockey title by knocking off Cathedral, 4-2.

Not that the score, or result was the highlight for Rachel and the young man (or woman? Don’t want to rule anything out) who plucked up the courage to ask her to prom and had the intestinal fortitude to incorporate peers from one of his school’s crosstown rivals in the big reveal.
